Rock Drilling

Seaway Marine Group provides on land and in water drilling services.

Our excavator mounted drills allow us to drill into bedrock from land or water for foundation piles, utility pole sockets, tie backs, toe pins, and piles for docks. We have rock drilling capabilities up to 24 inch diameter.

Seaway Marine Group also provides tug, workboat, and engineered sectional barge support (including moon pools) to many drilling companies. Depending on the equipment being used, the depth of the water and the extent of the drilling we will tailor the barge platform to suit the project’s needs.

ATON 199 Replacement, St. Lawrence River, NY

Owner: St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation

Prime: Seaway Marine Group, LLC

On this project we configured our Poseidon® sectional barges to surround the existing aid to navigation and provide a platform from which to work. We then removed the existing aid to navigation tower; drilled an 18” diameter rock socket, 21 feet deep; then grouted in a 22 foot, 10” diameter, schedule 120 column with a heavy steel frame base. The steel base was fabricated in our workshop in Clayton to support the reinstalled aluminum aid to navigation tower.

This project was completed safely and efficiently despite the challenges with the location of ATON 199 in the shipping channel and the time of year at which the work was performed.
